Binky, Our Miniature Shetland Pony, Will Entertain The Children For Hours On End. She Is A Wonderful, Sweet Natured Pony That Loves Being Groomed & Walked Around The Farm & Country Lanes.
Shetland Ponies Originated In The Shetland Isles Where Small Horses Have Been Kept Since The Bronze Age. It Is Believed People Who Lived On The Islands Crossed Native Stock With Ponies Imported By Norse Settlers. The Harsh Climate & Scarce Food Developed The Ponies Into Extremely Hardy Animals
Shetland Ponies Were First Used For Pulling Carts, Carrying Peat, Coal Etc & Ploughing Farm Land. Then, As The Industrial Revolution Increased The Need For Coal In The Mid 19th Century, Thousands Of Shetland Ponies Travelled To Mainland Britain To Be Pit Ponies, Working Underground Hauling Coal, Often For Their Entire, Often Short, Lives
Today, Shetlands Are Favoured By Children For Participation In Horse Shows & Harness Driving Classes.
Shetland’s Are Generally Gentle, Good Tempered & Very Intelligent. Miniature Shetland’s Have Even Been Trained As Guide Horses To Take The Same Role As Guide Dogs!
