Westgate Carr Farm idylically located in the Vale of Pickering, gateway to the North Yorkshire Moors
Having finally completed legal purchase in late December 2012, we immediately implemented a comprehensive programme of improvement & refurbishment throughout & the campsite today has been transformed with new electrics, fencing, pitches, dog walk/nature trail earning a customer feedback rating of 10/10 (UK Campsite website). A new toilet block with full Disabled room, separate male/female rooms including showers, small kitchenette & external pot wash is finally completed at a cost of £70,000.
Family owned, our immediate attention is being directed to providing our campsite customers with an improved, more satisfying & rewarding experience; with a strong focus on enhancing the natural habitats, ecosystems & ecology of the wildlife resident around the farm.
Our campsite pitches are predominantly grass based although we have now completed construction of 8 all-weather gravel pitches, 4 of which are fully serviced with the added benefit of a private picnic table & 4 being designated for campervan/motorhomes in a private, adult-only paddock again with private picnic tables. All pitches are serviced with new electric hook ups providing 10 amps each. With 360 degree views, no noise or light pollution & fantastic sunsets over the moors, Westgate Carr Farm Campsite must be shortlisted for your holiday!
Our dedicated circular nature trail/dog walk along our fields to the boundary with Costa Beck, a fast flowing chalk stream where you may see Trout & Grayling, Herons, Swans, Kingfishers, Wagtails & even Otters has proved particularly enjoyable . Bullfinches & Long Tailed Tits are resident in the hedges surrounding the camping field as are Goldfinches, Yellowhammers, Woodpeckers & Owls as well as more commonly seen wild birds such as Chaffinches & Robins etc. Roe Deer are regular visitors to the field adjoining the campsite.
The immediate grounds have been landscaped with trees being planted & the provison of a bird feeding station together with the creation of new paddocks for occasional use by our Alpacas & Heavy Horses. Our hens roam freely altogether allowing guests to observe & potentially interact with the animals if desired. The Alpacas are particularly inquisitive, if not wary of strangers but are highly amusing providing hours of entertainment
Currently we have 4 horses – Ernie. a huge & now rare breed Clydesdale standing at 18h high; Willow, our Shire Horse foal; Paddy, a stunning & friendly Irish Draught Horse & Betsy, a lovely natured, gentle Irish Cob
We further intend to extend our interest in Rare Breeds but the most recent acquisition has been a couple of pet Ryeland sheep, one of the oldest breeds of sheep in the UK & once designated a Rare Breed. The Ryeland is very docile & friendly in nature, heavily wooled giving them a very appealing appearance
Beyond that who knows but our desire & passion is to improve & upgrade all aspects of the farm to provide the owners with a desirable country house lifestyle & all campsite visitors with an undeniably rewarding short break or longer holiday in one of the most beautiful areas of the UK countryside. Our intention is for Westgate Carr Farm to be recognised as a top-end campsite where guests can return time after time in confidence of a warm & friendly welcome with unrivalled peace & tranquility.
We are delighted to announce Westgate Carr Farm is now an official Hedgehog release centre for Sleepy Hollow Hedgehog Rescue, Seamer. Sleepy Hollow care for injured, sick &/or under-weight hedgehogs nursing them back to full health before being released back into the wild. Unfortunately we ourselves discovered a number of young underweight Hogs on the farm in Autumn 2015 currently being cared for by Sleepy Hollow & we saw them returned to the farm in Spring 2016
We look forward to meeting you!
Please note Westgate Carr Farm operates a comprehensive, fully monitored 24 hour CCTV security system
